Welcome to Vienna

Welcome to Vienna
Welcome to Vienna, also known as “The City of Dreams” named after the 1957 musical. Home to many famous composers including Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and Strauss II, this beautiful city has so much history to uncover and magic to release.

Vienna has been voted the most livable city in the world and no wonder so- its parks, museums, and restaurants are all enchanting.

If you’re a food lover, look no further, Vienna is your city with over 30 Michelin chefs. Not only is this city a food capital, but it is also a wine connoisseur's heaven with over 1,700 acres of vineyards.

Believe it or not, the croissant has been invented in Vienna. This famous French pastry is based on the Austrian Kipferl and was introduced to France by Maria Antoinette of Austria when she married King Louis XVI of France.

And we can’t forget the Sachertorte also known as the Sacher Cake- the world’s famous chocolate cake. It was invented in 1832 by chef Franz Sacher and the world has never been the same since. To get a taste of a 100% authentic Sachertorte, you must stop by The Hotel Sacher.

Other than delicious food and beautiful architecture, Vienna hosts Europe’s biggest and most diverse museum complex and is home to the world’s oldest zoo, the Tiergarten Schönbrunn which began in 1782. The city’s Museum Quarter includes 60 cultural establishments making it one of the largest cultural complexes in the world. So don’t forget to purchase your tickets because you definitely don’t want to miss out on these cultural complexes.

Most Liveable City

Vienna is again the world's most liveable city according to The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) 2023 Global Liveability Index. Vienna tops the ranking in stability, culture, entertainment, and reliable infrastructure.

As in the previous year, the Austrian capital Vienna is once again at the top of the ranking of the world's most livable cities. The metropolis with 1.9 million inhabitants is considered one of the safest cities of all and offers an incomparably high quality of life with its excellent infrastructure, an excellent health system, and a wide range of business and leisure opportunities. Due to the long and eventful history of the city, locals and guests have access to an immense range of cultural possibilities. Vienna's MuseumsQuartier is home to some of the most important museums in the world, such as the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the mumok - Museum of Modern Art. Impressive architectural landmarks such as St. Stephen's Cathedral, Schönbrunn Castle, Belvedere Castle, and the historical buildings along the Ringstrasse also fascinate visitors from near and far. In addition, numerous parks, gardens, and green spaces make Vienna an extraordinarily green city.

Restaurants

Neue Hoheit

Neue Hoheit
The view from the Neue Hoheit restaurant is magnificent, and the interior design is inviting, modern, and yet comfortable. The menu is inspired by Austrian and French cuisine. Beef tartare, boiled fillet and Wiener schnitzel, pancakes, and Kaiserschmarren are also available in many restaurants in the city, but not with this view. After a delicious aperitif, a Bellini, the dishes are served. The Foie Gras Terrine is delicious, the pointed peppers stuffed with quinoa, passion fruit, and bread chips taste exotic and delicious, and the tartare is superb.
The 200-gram steak is perfectly grilled, tender, and pink and the mashed potatoes that come with it are no less delicious, and the French fries are crispy. The Goulash with butter dumplings was quite pleasant. In conclusion, the chocolate sour cherry Valhrona with vanilla ice cream and the pancakes with Wachau apricot jam were exquisite.

Bagels and More

Bagels are round, baked pastries typically made in the form of a ring. They are a popular type of pastry originating from Jewish cuisine in Eastern Europe and later became popular in many parts of the world.

Traditionally, bagels are made from yeast dough and briefly boiled before baking. This process creates a shiny, thin crust while keeping the inside soft and chewy. Bagels come in various flavors and variations, with some of the most popular flavors being sesame, poppy seed, whole grain, and plain. These flavors are achieved by sprinkling the respective ingredients on the surface of the bagel before baking.

Bagels are usually sliced and served with a variety of toppings and spreads. A classic bagel sandwich often includes cream cheese, lox, ham, chicken fillets, cream cheese, or other fillings.

At Bagels and More located at Webgasse 43 in Vienna's 6th district, you can find the most delicious handmade bagels with various fillings. The most popular ones include basil pesto, mozzarella, tomatoes, arugula, and red onions, tuna spread, tomatoes, arugula, red onions, and pickles, or cream cheese and lox with arugula and red onions. Additionally, they serve homemade pastries like chocolate cake or cottage cheesecake for a delightful café experience.

A Stroll in the Park

A Stroll in the Park
The well-kept historic parks along the ring road are also oases of relaxation. In the Volksgarten, where hundreds of roses bloom in summer, is the Theseus Temple, a scaled-down replica of the Theseion in Athens, which is used by the Kunsthistorisches Museum to display contemporary art, and a monument of Empress Elisabeth. The Rathaupark, laid out in the style of an English landscape garden, has a magnificent old stock of trees, some of which are exotic. In the Burggarten you can find the much-visited Mozart monument and the Palm House. The Palm House consists of two glass houses, one is a café restaurant and the other a butterfly house. The Stadtpark, which opened in 1862, is Vienna's oldest public park; its winding paths are lined with ornamental shrubs, meadows, and bodies of water. The Stadtpark is also rich in statues, including what is probably Vienna's most photographed monument, the golden statue of the "Waltz King" Johann Strauss son.

Discover the Ringstrasse

Discover the Ringstrasse
From a military site to a magnificent boulevard: the Vienna Ringstrasse was officially opened in 1865. It was the largest urban development project in the history of Vienna that completed the change from a feudal residential city to a major European city. All year round, the Vienna Ringstrasse is the scene of a wide variety of events. The cultural highlights of the Ringstrasse events include the Summer Music Film Festival on the Rathausplatz and the broadcast of selected opera performances on a large screen in front of the Opera House. During the summer an urban and extremely lively bar scene has developed along the Danube Canal at the Franz Josefs Kai. This section is located between Ringturm and Urania and closes the ring around downtown.
Even when it was first built, the Ringstrasse established itself as a promenade for the bourgeoisie. It was a see-and-be-seen on the new boulevard. The walk between the “Sirk corner” (intersection of Ring/Kärntner Strasse) and Schwarzenbergplatz was particularly popular. At this corner, people arranged to meet at the times of the k.u.k. Monarchy.
Car traffic on the ring road is guided in up to four lanes in a clockwise direction. The ring can also be circled by bicycle. However, the Ringstrasse is also a place of relaxation. When it was built, the boulevard was deliberately designed with landscape principles in mind. Between the street and the buildings, two to three rows of trees were planted on either side, with a walking and riding avenue in between. Today there are around 2,400 trees along the boulevard that provide pleasant shade in summer.

Tip: Hop on the streetcar and drive a full circle around the Ring or if you are a sporty person you can rent a bike.

Luxury Lifestyle

A Spoonful of Luxury - Caviar from the Caviar House & Prunier

There is hardly any other delicacy that has such sex appeal as caviar. Sturgeon roe is considered the epitome of indulgence. The range of tastes of the caviar, which comes from the Siberian sturgeon, is diverse, depending on the salting and maturation. From mild to strong, you can find the right caviar for every palate.

The "Paris" variety is the mildest variety and only contains a little salt. It is also often referred to as "women's caviar" because women in particular appreciate its mild taste.

The classic "Tradition" is somewhat stronger than the "Paris" variety. With a little more salt, it's the perfect caviar for beginners.

The "Saint-James" variety, comparable to Iranian caviar, gets its specific aroma through the exact salting according to the Iranian model and comes very close to a classic Oscietra caviar. It has a stronger taste than the "Tradition".

The finest Prunier variety "Heritage", is particularly large and light-colored. It gets the same salting as the "Saint James" caviar, but because of its large, light-colored eggs, this caviar acquires a much more delicate taste.

“Malossol” actually means “mildly salted”. The variety is based on the Russian caviar style and is prepared with "pur sel", making it the strongest in the Punier variety.

"Royal Black" comes from a young Oscietra sturgeon and is the darkest caviar of the Caviar House. It is comparatively large, and its distinct taste is reminiscent of beluga caviar.

The "Imperial" is the rarest caviar because it comes from a more mature Oscietra. It shimmers golden, is firm, and has an incomparable taste with full aromas.

A cheaper variant is the “New York” caviar. The caviar from the white sturgeon native to American rivers is mild and particularly suitable for caviar beginners.
